Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the length of stay at House of Hope?

Because of our individualized focus and in-depth therapy, we are able to effect a substantial change in residents in as short a time as possible, but the average length of stay is typically 8-10 months, depending on the severity of the issues and how soon the teen participates fully in the therapy.

How many counseling sessions do our residents receive?

Each of our residents receive 1 individual session and 2 group sessions per week.  Occasionally, more sessions will be recommended based upon need for your particular child.  Parents are also required to participate in counseling in the form of one weekly parenting group session, and a weekly individual session with the same counselor as their child.  Family sessions will be held when it is appropriate.

Will I get to have contact with my child once they begins her stay at House of Hope KC?

One of the unique characteristics of House of Hope’s model is how we desire to come alongside the family from the very beginning.  Therefore, after an initial grace period, your child will be allowed a weekly phone/virtual call as well as an opportunity to have a “weekend pass” that will increase in length as they progress through the program.

How Much Does House of Hope Cost ?

House of Hope Kansas City, is a non-profit organization and is priced among the lowest providers in the Midwest for quality therapeutic care for your child. Tuition is based on a sliding scale, based on family income levels, with scholarships available to those who qualify. Monthly tuition covers all expenses related to school, room and board, counseling, transportation, & most activities.

Does Insurance Cover Cost ?

Our licensed counseling staff are available for sessions with teenagers, parents, siblings, and group family sessions. Most insurance programs will reimburse at least partial costs related to the counseling therapies.

We will provide a “superbill” for you to submit for reimbursement to your insurance provider.  Residential care is not covered by insurance at this time.

Is the Program Christian-Based ?

House of Hope Kansas City is a Christian-based organization providing a comprehensive residential treatment program for hurting teens. Our staff is committed to following and honoring Jesus Christ through our words, actions and deeds in our relationships with all people.  We will introduce and teach your child the principles of Scripture and the Christian Faith, but we will in no way force any kind of beliefs or conversion.

Is this a Lockdown or Involuntary Program?

House of Hope KC is not a lockdown facility, but we are a 24 hour staffed, family-style environment within a residential area.  Our staff, counselors, and teachers work with you and your child on rebuilding relationships, trust, and respect. The campus is safe and secure to protect our students and to prevent runaways when we are charged with caring for your children.

How large is your program at House of Hope KC?

We have capacity for 20 residents, and usually range between 10-15 enrolled at any given time.  We believe that the smaller size of our program is conducive to a customized therapeutic approach and building meaningful relationships that can lead to transformation as we view each resident’s journey for what God wants to do in their life.

How does my child attend school while at House of Hope KC?

Your child would do online school through the Basehor-Linwood Virtual School.  We have a Lead and Asst. Teacher to help guide their academic progress and ensure that they stay on pace or works ahead of their grade level. See the larger explanation of our Hope Academy just below.
